Lighting perspective

Good lighting begins with the space.

The fixture is one part of the decision. The application gives it purpose.

Begin with how the space is used.

A workplace asks for a different lighting approach from a lounge, retail display or outdoor path. Start with the task, the visual environment and the way people move through the space.

Think beyond a single number.

Wattage alone does not describe the experience of light. Distribution, placement, visual comfort, colour and control all contribute to the result. Product selection should consider these factors together.

Consider the long view.

The right solution also needs to suit the installation and its maintenance. Access, operating conditions and documentation deserve attention before the final product is selected.

Respect the architecture.

Light can reveal material, shape and depth without becoming the centre of attention. The most useful starting point is often the simplest question: what should people see and feel in this space?
